Assessment
The NEBOSH International General Certificate is assessed in a two-step process:
IG1: An online open book exam (OBE) and supporting closing interview
IG2: A workplace-based practical risk assessment
**You need to pass both assessments to achieve your qualification.

Key facts about NEBOSH Internatinal General Certificate Course
Exploring the platform – Open Book Exam
5-7 days before your exam you will be emailed with a link to the online exam portal, a unique username and a temporary password. At this point, you should log in, change your password and familiarise yourself with the platform ahead of your exam. Your exam paper will not be available to view until the date of your exam.
Exam day
At 11:00 BST the open book examination question paper will be available on the NEBOSH online platform. You will have 24 hours to complete and submit your exam, although it is expected to take you around 5 hours to complete.
Learning Agreement
When you join the course, we ask you to enter into the following agreement with us:
The Gulf Academy of Safety will:
- Deliver teaching by adequately trained and experienced teachers
- Cover all learning outcomes in the specification
- Provide or guide you to the information you need to complete the qualification
- Provide professional revision and examination technique assistance
- Be prompt in responding to any inquiries
- Maintain a professional demeanour at all times
You must:
- Attend all scheduled sessions;
- positively contribute to group discussions;
- strive to be active rather than passive in your learning;
- complete the required number of revision hours;
- pay special attention to revision and examination technique advice; and
- bring any learning difficulties to our attention as soon as possible.
Closing interviews
Following completion of your exam, Gulf Academy will be in touch to arrange an interview after your exam. It is simply there to confirm your identity and that it was you who completed your submitted paper. This should take no more than 15 minutes.
Results and Certificates
Results are issued 10 weeks after the assessment date.
Each unit is reported as ‘Pass’ or ‘Refer’. You must pass both units to achieve the qualification.

Qualification Grading
Your overall qualification grade will be based on the mark you achieve in your IG1 open book exam:
Pass: 45-64 marks
Credit: 65-74 marks
Distinction: 75+ marks
The IG2 is a practical risk assessment based on a workplace. This can be completed at a place of work or at home, and is submitted by email according to deadline. You’ll be awarded a grading for the IG2 either a pass or refer (fail).
You must successfully pass both units to achieve your full NEBOSH International General Certificate.
Unit and qualification certificates are despatched by NEBOSH within 20 working days of the result notification date.
